The Fire brigade came to visit! PDF Print E-mail

henry_and_fire_engine_correct_copy We had lots of fun when the Fire-engine from Worthing fire station came to see us at nursery this morning.  We played on the engine and looked at the equipment.  The best bit was when the lights and the siren were on! we were just watching the fire fighters squirting water from the hose when they had a 999 call and had to pack up really fast and leave to attend the emergency.

After lunch we talked about fires and and had our own bonfire, but dont worry we were all kept well back and our hose pipe was at the ready.

News from Jane - Spring Term 2012 PDF Print E-mail
jane-140Dear Parents,

Welcome back and a Happy New Year to you all. The children have settled in beautifully and are enjoying visiting the sensory room. We have a lot of things to plant in the walled garden over next few weeks,  if any of you would like to come and have a look at the garden your child would be delighted to show you around. Please e-mail or phone to book. A huge thank you from us all for the wonderful presents you so generously gave us.

We are very excited about our new web-site that is now live, we would love your comments/feedback. A big thank you to Dean Beedell (a daddy at the nursery) who has created this for us I hope you love it as much as we do. Please feel free to give us your thoughts as we are still working on it.

Parent Consultations - Some of these will take place for the older children the week commencing Monday 5th

March.  Please look in your child's reading folder for your allocated time. Those children that do not get a time will receive their time at a later date in the term.  Please feel free to make an appointment earlier if you would like to.

Apple Room - For parents not getting their choice of school please come and see Jane and Kerry to discuss options we are here to help.

EASTER EGG HUNT - Friday the 23rd March 2012 We would like to encourage the parents to attend this with their children.   It will be held in the fields behind the house.  If it is wet, it will be around the Nursery grounds. Please make sure that you fill in the slip provided to let us know who will be attending as the nursery provide an egg for all of the children coming but,  we will not provide an egg for those that have not replied due to cost.

DRESSING UP In line with world book day we would like to have a few days of dressing up for the children to enjoy.  These will be Thursday and Friday the 1st and 2nd March the theme is nursery rhyme characters.

FUN AND FITNESS WITH HAVEN Thank you to all of you that have signed up to support us with getting some free sports equipment.  If you haven't and are be able to,  we would be very grateful,  all you have to do is click on www.havenfunandfitness.com we are at the 70% stage but need that last little push to make it to our target if you have not already done this and you have any spare time please do .

PICKING UP CHILDREN AND PARKING. Thank you to those parents who are using the driveway correctly. All parents must enter in the Highden Drive, (second entrance by the coach house). A one-way system on dropping your children off is in place, so please enter opposite Little Windlesham and then exit out of the slip road to the south.

The Highden drive is used by other people, please go slowly and be aware of oncoming traffic, and, MOST importantly, watch out for children playing.  Those of you exiting through Windlesham, going south, MUST drive very very slowly through the grounds and also give way to oncoming traffic.

Could parents be careful not to let their children or siblings play in the playground when the nursery is still open as this upsets those children who are still attending.  It is the responsibility of parents for the safety of their child once the nursery has handed them over to you. We would also like to remind you that parking is for picking up and dropping off children and NOT to be used for parking and walking dogs etc.

FEES Fees must be paid at the beginning of term. Due to a high number of unpaid invoices Garden Cottage Nursery will be charging 2% late payment fee. Please feel free to come and talk to Jane or Kerry if you have any queries.

Fees not paid within the first week of nursery will now be issued with an additional bill for the late fee as per our terms and conditions.

UNIFORM Anyone requiring uniform please inform a member of staff.  We have sweatshirts and polo shirts available.  We would like ALL children to wear this uniform during their time at the Nursery.

Please ensure your child has a coat, hat and gloves as we do go outside to play and it is very cold at the moment, could you also make sure everything is clearly labelled.  If any item of clothing is not marked, staff will use a permanent black marker pen to identify your child's belongings.  Apologies for this, but I hope you understand.

NAPPIES Please make sure that all bags are labelled and are full of nappies, baby wipes and nappies sacks (cream if needed). Bags need to be put in the nappy box in the front entrance, for those in nappies only! Older children who bring bags but are not in nappies should leave them on their pegs Please.

RECYCLING CLOTHES - Due to the lack of socks, pants etc.  Not being returned to the nursery when borrowed, we would like to introduce a recycling box that parents could leave any old socks and pants they would like to donate and also return those that have been borrowed. the committee came up with a great idea if any of you have children's gloves that are odd please do bring them in so we have spare gloves for the children even if it is only one glove we could mix and match!!

PARENTS FRIENDS COMMITTEE If you would like to join the committee please feel free, we meet once a term and it is so important to have parents views, we do have a great committee in place but would love more, please contact the chairperson Charlotte here.

Thank you so much to the parents that already donate fruit.  The children very much enjoy this at snack time and enjoy the preparation of and eating the variety offered.  Donations are always gratefully received.

nick_newsThe children were delighted that their local MP Nick Herbert came to vist and join in the Christmas celebrations ! He joined in with singing their songs. The children were very proud to show him around the nursery including the walled garden, sensory room and classrooms. Nick was impressed by the fact he has a 'Outstanding' setting in his constituancy.  Staff and  children ended the session by presenting Nick with a copy of their calandar for 2012!
